Wild Leek - What a Find!

I took the day off yesterday...we'll call it a mental health day.  Some days, it's so sunny and nice out, and the thought of sitting in a windowless office all day makes me feel ill.  I just couldn't do it.

I didn't eat the greatest the last few days, I've not felt well mentally.  Though I really am A.O.K.  I'm really struggling to get through each day at my day job, I really just want to work at my home jobs.  The Shepherd told me I should figure out a solid business plan so hopefully I really can be a full time farmer in a year or so.  I think he's a smart guy.

A few shots.

Have you ever heard of wild leek?  They are super.  They taste like a very garlic-y onion, and grow in the woods in the spring.  I have searched for them on our farm with no luck.  Yesterday I was out for a hike and stumbled accross a HUGE patch!  I'm going to call the market people today to see if I'd be able to sell them.  I'm not sure of our rules.  I didn't grow them, but I'll forage for them, so not sure if I'm allowed.

A lot of the sheep were let out to pasture this weekend.  I love this sight.  It's a fresh look, they seem happy, and the dogs are happy to have sheep outside to watch over.
The raspberries are starting to form leaves!  It's been strange seeing 2 foot sticks just sticking out of the ground.  We knew they would live, but you still wonder...
This is a pasta dish we had the other night.  Sauteed apraragus and mushrooms, an alfredo sauce from the Food Network and twisty ww noodles.  A great way to continue celebrating asparagus!  Sideways...again?
Regular posts will resume..or not...life is busy but really enjoyable.

  1. I love wild leeks!! They gorw like mad out at Jason's parents farm. Fiddleheads, too but we missed the boat on those this year. I hope they let you sell'em at your market stand. Those raspberries bushes excite me! They'll be great.

I wonder...I know sitting at a desk has never been your favourite, but maybe you have ants in your pants due to summer and your soon to be year off on mat leave? I know I got really agitated with my job when I was pregnant with the kids, too. It was torture!

  3. I don't think I've every had wild leeks, but I'm sure I'd love them. Hope you get to sell them...

And I don't blame you for wanting to enjoy your garden and nature rather than being behind a desk... Mental health days are necessary once in a while! :)

  4. Sorry you've been feeling a little off. Mental days off from work usually make me feel 100% better. I hear you on the want/desire to work totally from home. Hopefully your business plan will come together and you will be doing so in no time. Those wild leeks are gorgeous

  5. I've never heard of a wild leek! Can I just say how jealous I am of your home surroundings!!!

I have the sideways picture prob sometimes too - I find that if I delete, go back to my saved folder of them, rotate them clockwise, then counterclockwise, then rename them, they upload fine. I know sounds tedious, and I'm not sure why that process works, but it does for me.

  7. I'm sorry its been a rough week. I can definitely understand wanting to find a way to find a way out of an office job. I was miserable in the months leading up to me leaving my job. I can' imagine if I had been pregnant at the time, with hormones making me even more emotional than I already was!

I hope you can figure out a way to do just what you want :)

  9. That's exciting that your rasps are sprouting! Fresh berries are amazing :)

I'm sorry you've been feeling rough at your desk job. It's tough to be sitting indoors when it's so beautiful outside

  10. Wild leeks! How cool. I cooked with leeks (the non-wild variety) a couple weeks ago. I really like them. Onion-y, but not onions, for sure.

I know how it is at a desk job. Stick it out and keep working toward your real dream. You'll get there.

  12. Can't wait to see when those raspberries are in full bloom!

Ha, I understand your frustration with trying to make bread - I used to spend way too much time only to find a loaf that didn't rise and felt more like a rock then piece of bread :) Someone told me that I was probably making the water too hot - so I stopped worrying about the temperature and just get it from the sink when I think it starts to feel "warm" - since then I haven't had any problems! :)
